Summary
The Director/Sr. Director, Research Business Partnership & Delivery is responsible for IT Solutions which support the Research and Development at Seattle Genetics (SGEN). The individual will partner with the SVP of Research and Chief Medical Officer to ensure the delivery of high-quality IT services and projects.
This position is expected to provide thought leadership through the planning and deployment of key systems to support SGEN’s fast moving Research initiatives. As part of the IT leadership team, this individual is expected to bring both function specific expertise as well as overall leadership skills in support of the wider IT organization. This role will establish an IT strategy within Research at a time when significant change is taking place, organizationally and strategically. This position will uphold compliance to the policies and standards within the organization and will manage customer relationships while acting as a trusted advisor to the business.
Key Position Deliverables:
- Collaborate with a new and evolving team in Research to establish strong relationships and build partnerships.
- Establish an IT strategy to support the needs of Research for the coming years.
- Lead highly motivated IT professionals to execute on the strategy and deliver required systems and solutions.
- Support the existing systems, ensuring high quality operations are maintained at all times.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to build, direct, and retain a high performing IT team, including outsourced personnel.
- Attracts and retains talent within the organization, providing developmental guidance, goals, performance management and reward recommendations. Provides a high level of engagement, collaboration and communication with staff, business partners and management.
- Provides exceptional support to a variety of stakeholders across the company.
- Maintains customer relationships, works with departments and key users across the company to identify and build business processes / solutions by leveraging technology.
- Ensures IT applications, systems, processes and personnel are developed, implemented and operated in compliance with regulatory standards including CFR, GxP, ICH and SOX.
- Participates in IT PMO to prioritize IT related projects.
- Acts as a “change agent” internal to IT while influencing change outside of IT.
Qualifications:
- At least 15 years of experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry and comfortable in managing multiple large, complex projects in parallel.
- Business knowledge: demonstrated knowledge of key business processes and industry awareness of trends in the bio/pharma industry with a specific focus on Research.
- Credibility and Presence: the ability to capture the confidence of the organization in presenting new ideas or solutions.
- Collaboration / Communication / Teamwork: establish and maintain successful interaction within the organization. Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization with a high level of confidence and resiliency.
- Compliance knowledge: detailed understanding of all requirements for bio/pharma system validation with responsibility to ensure systems are compliant with FDA regulations.
- Strategic Thinking: ability to consider a problem abstractly and develop an approach that meets Company strategic goals.
- Leadership: ability to take independent action, working with a high-level problem or concept, developing the right next steps to propose resolution and ensuring successful outcome.
- Influence Skills: ability to factually resolve conflicts and differences of opinion in a respectful yet assertive way.
- Strategic Planning: Ability to package and syndicate a message, garner business support, drive and document vision / strategy, plan & organize, providing progress on multiple projects.
- Outcome oriented: Balance creativity and innovation against practical / cost effective approaches.
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- MBA or related Masters-level degree is an asset.
