Summary:

The Senior Director, Corporate Communications will be responsible for developing and implementing Seagen’s global public relations and corporate positioning initiatives. This position will report directly to the Vice President, Corporate Communications, and includes regular interaction with other executive leadership.

The Senior Director, Corporate Communications will drive strategic, proactive global corporate communications programs to enhance corporate visibility, thought-leadership, community awareness and coverage of the Company that are aligned with Seagen’s narrative, vision, mission, and corporate citizenship. This individual will partner with the Investor Relations, Patient Advocacy, Alliance Management and Internal Communications teams to ensure alignment and consistency of messaging with external and internal audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with VP, Corp Comm to develop strategic plans for engaging with local and national industry organizations and government contacts to properly position Seagen within the biotechnology community
  • Develop and execute initiatives that leverage key external communication channels or embrace new channels to reach target audiences
  • Oversee executive presentation development and media training, as necessary
  • Foster relationships with key media outlets and reporters
  • Prepare for and manage the Company through communications issues, employing positioning consistent with Seagen’s values
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members on external-facing materials and events, including branded, medical, industry and research meetings, presentations, and announcements to ensure consistency with the Company’s disclosure and corporate identity
  • Oversee Seagen’s brand identity program, serve as corporate brand ambassador and provide corporate communications recommendations to help achieve organizational goals
  • Collaborate with communications team members, including product and pipeline communications, media and social media relations, patient advocacy and internal communications. In addition, build effective relationships and collaborate with external agency and colleagues across the organization including diversity & inclusion and corporate social responsibility teams
  • Implement measurement tools and analytics to determine effectiveness of overall reputation and communications programs and initiatives. Evaluate results through measurable objectives and indicators designed to demonstrate value; adapt communications strategies as appropriate
  • Manage agency partners and budget

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 10 - 15 years of corporate communications experience in a publicly traded, commercial-stage healthcare/ biotechnology company and/or a PR agency
  • BA/BS degree required, advanced degree a plus
  • Thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry and communications channels, including new trends and platforms
  • Proven ability to speak the language of a healthcare company and break down complex scientific concepts for both internal and external audiences
  • Global experience, working in both the US and European marketplaces with demonstrated ability to work across functions, regions, and cultures
  • Understanding of FDA and other country-specific regulations impacting communications
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with company executives, media, patient advocacy organizations and other internal and external constituents
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a proven ability to motivate and manage communications professionals (internally and externally) to achieve outstanding results
  • Dynamic, team player with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills and a great sense of humor
  • Significant experience working with and influencing senior teams/executives
  • Strategic agility, able to balance proactive/planning with reactive elements of the position
  • Ability to identify areas for process and systems innovation and implement change that will enhance the overall effectiveness of the team
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 20 percent of time
