Summary

The Research Associate I works in a collaborative setting with other cell culture development staff. Their primary responsibility is to execute experiments under the direction of others or that are routine in nature and help advance projects through development. They compile data in electronic laboratory notebooks, create informative tables and graphs, and write technical reports. They occasionally present at group or department meetings. This is an exciting opportunity to support programs moving through the pipeline as well as innovative technology development initiatives within the group.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Supports and contributes to Cell Culture development efforts for early and late-stage programs, including complex experiments such as multi-block DoE studies
  • Performs cell culture experiments (bioreactors, shake flasks) that are routine in nature and troubleshoots studies with supervision
  • Independently devises experimental protocols. Interprets data with guidance
  • Records accurate, clear, and complete experimental data and methods
  • Assists senior personnel in developing solutions to problems
  • Summarizes experimental results and presents to lab group
  • Contributes to lab upkeep and equipment maintenance
  • Contributes to technical reports and may author with guidance
  • Is developing statistical analysis skills
  • Collaborates within the Cell Culture group and cross functionally
  • Occasional weekend work

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S., B.A., or background in relevant field (i.e. biology, microbiology, biochemistry, engineering)
  • Good understanding of recombinant protein expression technology, cell metabolism, and cell physiology
  • Experience in cell culture and aseptic technique to passage cells
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and understands principles of data manipulation
  • Ability to work and communicate very well in a team
  • Driven and enthusiastic about learning and solving technical problems
  • Positive attitude and strong problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in bioreactor operations for fed batch and perfusion processes
  • Experience using statistical analysis (JMP) to interpret data
  • Experience with electronic lab notebook software like IDBS, benchling etc.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs.
