Summary

The Principal DevOps Engineer will be a part of the IT Enterprise Architecture and Engineering team and helps build and support the vital infrastructure, pipelines, and systems across multiple cloud platforms that allow systems and applications to be developed and deployed with speed, ease, and confidence. You will have a solid Infrastructure-as-Code mindset and serve as a technical specialist delivering the engineering artifact that powers a number of innovative solutions at Seagen. You develop keen insight into the technical architecture and design to provide robust and scalable software and infrastructure components. You constantly demonstrate the depth of your expertise by solving engineering problems, passionate about the quality of deliverables, and balance between the speed of delivering new features and the robustness of the components you implement. You can handle operational issues with little or no oversight. You actively review code to ensure the IaC quality, security, and, functional accuracy is maintained across various teams. You are keen to learn the design and architecture of the product and participate in ceremonies that can influence both.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Infrastructure-as-code tools to automate repetitive tasks and reduce operational friction in Seagen’s hybrid cloud environments, namely Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Develop blueprints, templates, monitoring, and instrumentation that power our cloud infrastructure automation.
  • Design and build CI/CD framework to enforce best practices while removing barriers to speed and quality.
  • Actively work to onboard other technical teams to Seagen’s cloud infrastructure platform, promote and improve build pipeline and deployment practices.
  • Implement and improve proactive monitoring to improve availability and traceability.
  • Balance creation of new infrastructure with maintenance/upkeep of existing infrastructure.
  • Using best practices & industry standards, develop solid & maintainable scripting & infrastructure tooling.

  • Help secure all aspects of Seagen’s infrastructure & participate in security reviews.
  • Develop an understanding & familiarity with new technologies in the DevOps space and assess possible use cases within Seagen’s environment

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in DevOps or infrastructure automation.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience deploying/monitoring cloud-based applications in Azure, GCP or similar cloud environments.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with collaborative version control systems (GitHub/ Subversion/ Bitbucket).
  • 2+ years of experience using infrastructure automation tools like Terraform.
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible or equivalent.
  • Experience with cloud computing and container solutions such as Docker, Azure VM, or equivalent.
  • Experience with managing code repositories and best practices as it relates to DevOps.
  • Experience developing applications using Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Ability to work well independently and maintain focus in a highly dynamic work environment
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with others, to influence based on knowledge and experience
  • Strong understanding of software project release automation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptive capacity for rapidly changing priorities and workloads.
  • Experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical, and medical device industry is desirable.
  • Experience with 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, SOX, and software validation processes is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Performs other related duties as required & assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical or scientific discipline OR equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications are highly desired

The hiring pay range for this position is $154,000 to $199,100 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role.   Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
