Summary:

Seagen is seeking a highly capable, enthusiastic, and motivated scientist to lead our purification group focused on antibody and recombinant protein production within the Core Research and Technologies group in Research. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in purification techniques that deliver high purity antibodies and protein reagents on a milligram to gram scale. This position requires strong expertise in management of a team of Research Associates with strong organizational and communication skills. This person will play a critical role in supporting preclinical efforts and participate in collaborative, cross-functional teams to enable cancer therapeutic development.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage:
    • Request queue and assignment of purification-related tasks to the team
    • Standard antibody and Fc-related purifications
    • Recombinant protein purification for soluble antigens and ligands
    • Custom purification of antibodies and ADCs
    • Analytical methods and techniques for assessing product quality
    • Design, development and optimization of experiments and workflows
    • Evaluation and implementation of new equipment, techniques, and procedures
  • Data analysis, report generation and presentation of results; including technical reports, patent documentation and tracking of reagents and requests
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with molecular and expression peers within the team and interface effectively with Research, Technical Operations and Translational Sciences groups to prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced work environment
  • Identify areas of improvement to enable both large- and small-scale purification platforms including inhouse high throughput and automated processes as well as outsourcing options
  • Train, coach, mentor and empower associates on the team; assist with their career development, goal setting and project prioritization

Required Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. plus 2-5 years' experience or BS/MS plus 10 years' experience in protein purification or related discipline
  • Recognized and established expertise in purification of antibodies and recombinant proteins from both bacterial and mammalian systems
  • Detailed understanding of the scientific and technological principles behind state-of-the-art protein expression and purification systems
  • Extensive expertise in protein purification techniques; including use of tags for affinity purification, solubility and multimerizing domains
  • Experience with analytical chromatography, mass spectrometry and/or glycosylation evaluation to evaluate product quality
  • Experience with onboarding, training, managing, or mentoring a team of research associates
  • Experience with technical writing, report generation and a commitment to high quality analysis and documentation
  • Demonstrated use of critical thinking to solve complex problems, address challenges, overcome obstacles, and anticipate areas for growth
  • Eagerness to identify, evaluate, and implement enabling technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recombinant protein expression and molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with antibody engineering (design and documentation), including humanization
  • Bioprocess antibody process including stable cell line development
  • Familiarity with epitope binning, antibody binding, and functional assays for screening antibodies such as ELISA, SPR/BLI, or flow cytometry
  • Understanding immunological functions and systems

The hiring pay range for this position is $108,000 to $140,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
