Summary:

The Sr. BI Engineer role has a passion for telling stories with data, creating actionable insights for the business community, and enabling self-service across the enterprise. As an integral member of our BI Engineering team, the Sr. Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer role will conceive, design, engineer, and implement complex data reporting solutions across the enterprise. This role is tasked with developing architecturally sound and accurate data solutions that will create standards for customer engagement and scale as the enterprise grows. A successful candidate in this role will approach problems and tasks both strategically and tactically, with a demonstrated dedication to data storytelling and a curiosity for solving intricate data reporting issues. This role will be responsible for setting the standards for data visualization reporting methodology both internally to the team and across the enterprise; as well as acting as a mentor to other team members. The Sr. BI Engineer has an outstanding understanding of our platform environment and toolset and is committed to evolving the team’s understanding of the opportunities presented within.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Lead development and maintenance of scalable and efficient Power BI reporting solutions to meet business needs with minimal supervision and direction
  • Employ effective data driven story telling techniques to create accurate, actionable reports and dashboards
  • Responsible for report design methodology and product documentation
  • Participate in design discussions across internal teams to guide the reporting requirements and provide specifications for the reporting semantic layer development
  • Play an active leadership role on the BI Engineering team, including assisting other team members in strategic understanding of report development, report development best practices, as well as, keeping current with latest technologies
  • Contribute to standardization / best practices documentation and awareness, participate / lead in Community of Practice, and further education of business users / first time report developers
  • Support the evaluation, testing and integration of emerging platform features into the reporting toolkit
  • Strategize, enable, and expand self-service capabilities for interactive dashboards, reports, and other reporting solutions
  • Provide support and issue resolution by analyzing issues, discovering root-cause, and providing alternative short term and long-term solutions
  • Identify and implement solutions to enhance existing BI infrastructure, processes, and technology
  • Assist with as needed ad hoc reports
  • Aid in on-boarding team members, with regards to internal team processes and documentation
  • Responsible for creation of technical documentation as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years in Business Intelligence or related field
  • Minimum of 4+years of report development required on Power BI Platform
  • Minimum 3+ years of SQL experience Demonstrated practical knowledge of DAX required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of M code required
  • Conceptual understanding and practical application of the design and construction of complex data models in the Power BI platform, including relational and dimensional data modeling principles
  • Basic knowledge of Data Warehousing concepts and methodologies, including ETL principals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact across multiple functional areas and explain technical information in a simplified manner to support user training
  • Proven experience in performance tuning of Power BI dashboards and reports
  • Power Platform experience nice to have
  • Ability to integrate new functionality of tool base in a timely basis as needed
  • Agile / Scrum experience required Industry experience preferred
  • BI certifications desirable, preferably related to PowerBI, or Data Visualization
  • Familiarity with UI/UX best practices nice to have
  • Familiarity with GitHub / repository concepts and versioning control nice to have
  • Experience working in a regulated or GxP environment

Education:

  • Four Year Degree preferred

The hiring pay range for this position is $127,000 to $164,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
